Though its beginnings were controversial, Hong Kong Disneyland has survived 14 years and seen its fair share of changes over its existence. With that said, we're here now to look at some of the former attractions that used to have a home in Hong Kong Disneyland.
Because Hong Kong Disneyland is still relatively new in the amusement park world, we’re expanding the definition of "attraction" to include limited time performances and experiences. However, we won’t be considering former parades or nighttime spectaculars in this list.
With that said, it's time to journey through Disney past; Here are 10 Hong Kong Disneyland attractions that no longer exist.
10 Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters
This dark ride had guests shooting at targets while journeying through the galaxy alongside Toy Story’s greatest space ranger. Though the ride still operates at other Disney parks around the world, this one — which features a track nearly identical to that at Tokyo Disneyland — shut down in 2017.
Though everyone loved the giant, colorful space creatures and the interactivity of the attraction, Disney had plans for a Marvel ride.
Today, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Nano Battle! has been put in its place, though the basic shooting concept remains.
9 Lightning McQueen Live!
To celebrate 5 years of Hong Kong Disneyland, the park opened an interactive Cars-themed show that took place at the front of Sleeping Beauty Castle. Lightning McQueen Live! had the titular character celebrating with visitors alongside some jammin’ tracks before his first-ever World Grand Prix.

Being that the show was designed to be a limited engagement, its ending came as scheduled in 2011.
8 The Golden Mickeys
This musical revue stage show had Disney’s famous heroes and villains gathering together for an award ceremony. It featured interviews with Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald, and Pluto, as well as a stream of songs and characters from movies including Toy Story 2, Tarzan, Mulan, The Little Mermaid, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Beauty and the Beast, and Lilo & Stitch.
Though a version of this show still runs on select Disney Cruise Lines, this rendition closed in 2015 in anticipation of another production known as Mickey and the Wondrous Book.
7 Autopia
Hong Kong Disneyland was the first major Disney park to debut without a racecar-style attraction. However, in 2006, it received Disneyland’s Autopia as part of an expansion.
Hong Kong’s version of the attraction featured jungle and alien landscapes. It was also the first of the Autopias to contain electric cards with onboard audio. Though the updates were welcome, the attraction still saw closure in 2016 to make room for a new Marvel ride themed after the Avengers.
6 “Frozen” Festival Show
This musical attraction, better known as For The First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-along Celebration in the United States, has Elsa and Anna sharing their story on stage alongside a pair of royal historians. The show features all the hit songs from the 2013 animated film including “Let It Go,” “In Summer,” and “For the First Time in Forever.”
The show began running at Hong Kong Disneyland in June 2015 and saw its end just a few months later in October 2015. However, it remains active in both Shanghai Disneyland Park and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
5 The Nightmare Experiment
This scary walkthrough maze debuted at Hong Kong Disneyland during the Halloween time in 2016, making a second appearance during the 2017 spooky season.

Guests originally got to venture through Dr. Facilier’s dark realm from The Princess and the Frog, a Pirate of the Caribbean prison, a room filled with Sid’s mutant toys from Toy Story, and Tarrant Hightopp’s lunatic asylum from the live-action Alice in Wonderland. When the walkthrough returned a year later, guests instead explored the scary places from films including Monsters Inc., Alice Through the Looking Glass, Beauty and the Beast, Hercules, and Pinocchio.
4 Mickey’s House
Mickey used to have a home in Hong Kong Disneyland but not anymore. Though you can still walk through Mickey’s residence at Disneyland in California, Mickey’s House in Hong Kong Disneyland was removed in 2009, lasting only around a year and a half, having first debuted in 2008.
The walkthrough took place on Main Street, U.S.A. It featured cartoony, oversized objects, and during the holidays, it got a Christmas layover with a festive tree and ornament-filled garland.
3 Stitch Encounter
Though this interactive show still operates in Walt Disney Studios Park in Paris and Tokyo Disneyland, it closed down in 2016.
Featuring digital puppetry like that in Turtle Talk With Crush in the U.S., this Tomorrowland attraction let guest communicate with an on-screen Stitch from Lilo & Stitch. Children were encouraged to sit near the front of the room so that they could be called on during the show. Though the activities involved ukulele singing, picture taking, and chatting, it all comes to an end with Stitch making another escape from Captain Gantu.
2 A Musical Celebration Of Coco
Themed after Pixar’s Coco, this musical show was performed for a limited time at both Disney California Adventure and Hong Kong Disneyland soon after the release of the film. The show featured a singing host and dancers who would bring three of the movie's most iconic numbers to life.
During this special street celebration, guests were treated to other Coco experiences around the area including an interactive photo location and special Mexican food options.
1 Captain Jack Sparrow’s Pirate Tutorial
This guest experience had Captain Jack Sparrow teaching kids the ways of a pirate during the Hong Kong Disneyland Pirate Takeover event in 2007.
The leading pirate, who was portrayed by a live actor, taught attendees how to compete in swordplay with foam weapons and use pirate jargon. All kids who went out of the audience to participate received a pirate crew certificate at the conclusion of the production. As cute as the show was, it didn’t last forever.
