If you’ve visited the Magic Kingdom, you’ve probably seen people walking around with creamy, yellow cups of soft serve somewhere in Adventure Land. Dole Whip is Disney World’s silky pineapple-flavored soft-serve that park-goers are obsessed with. It’s sweet, tangy, melts in your mouth, and totally Instagramable. So whether you’ve had eaten this treat a thousand times or are yet to try the most magical dessert alive, we’re here to tell you things you might not have known about it.

10 It Was Introduced In The ‘80s

Though millennials are obsessed with Dole Whip, it’s definitely not new. Disneyland’s Tiki Bar — which is stationed outside of the Enchanted Tiki Room Attraction — opened in 1968 and quickly began serving pineapple juice and pineapple spears. Several years after Dole took over sponsorship of the attraction, in 1986, the food venue outside began serving Dole Whip.

The Dole Whip float, which is a version of the treat served over a cup of pineapple juice, was also introduced during this year.

9 You Can Buy Dole Whip Merch

Disney’s iconic pineapple treat has such a cult following that the parks now sell Dole Whip-themed everything. No, we’re not kidding.

Disney has sold Dole Whip themed hats, backpacks, socks, pins, stuffed animals, MagicBands, purses, beach towels, tumblers, magnets, dresses, Mickey hats, and more. This means if you want to dress like the treat and decorate your room with the treat, it is possible.

8 There Are Many Flavors

Though Dole Whip is the term usually used to refer to Disney’s pineapple soft serve, there are actually other flavors available at the parks as well. Dole Whip’s other flavors include mango, lemon, orange, raspberry, strawberry, and lime.

While nothing beats the original, these are also very tasty. At certain locations, you can even get these flavors swirled with pineapple soft serve or vanilla ice cream. The combinations are amazing.

7 You Can Buy Dole Whip Across The Parks

Pineapple Dole Whip is known to be available at the Tiki Juice Bar in Disneyland and Aloha Isle at the Magic Kingdom. However, Disney has slowly expanded its availability.

You can also buy it at Pineapple Promenade in Epcot during the International Flower and Garden Festival, Tamu Tamu Refreshment at Animal Kingdom, Pineapple Lanai at Disney’s Polynesian Resort, and the Refreshment Port near the front of Epcot’s World Showcase by the Canada Pavillion. Most of the secondary Dole Whip flavors are scattered throughout the Magic Kingdom.

Let's not ignore the fact that Dole Whip is also fittingly available at Disney's Aulani resort in Hawaii.

6 Dole Whip Is Allergy-Friendly

If you’re gluten-free, you’ll want to skip out on the Mickey Pretzels and churros. Thankfully, Dole Whip is still totally an option for you. The soft serve is completely gluten-free and — get this — dairy-free. Yes, you can gasp a little.

5 Dole Whip Isn’t Just At Disney

While Dole Whip is treated like a Disney exclusive, there are a few other places across the United States that sell the tangy treat. The Dole Plantation in Hawaii is one location that serves up this iconic sweet, and Likit Dole Whip in St. Augustine, Florida is another.

If you can’t track down a certified Dole Whip location, you can still find lots of pineapple soft serve knockoffs. Maybe they’re not quite the same as Disney’s original, but they’re still pretty good.

4 You Can Make Dole Whip At Home

Yes, there are endless recipes online, but that’s not what we’re talking about. What we’re referring to is the delicious Dole pineapple soft serve mix that is available online. All you need is an ice cream maker and you’ll be able to make Disney’s iconic treat at home.

While the mix isn't called Dole Whip because it is slightly different, many people swear by it, believing it tastes almost, if not just as good as the Disney version. Dole’s soft serve mix is also available in other fruity flavors.

3 There Is A Secret Dole Whip Treat At Disneyland

Disneyland opened up a new snack location in Adventureland in 2018 known as The Tropical Hideaway. While you can get swirled Dole Whip here as well as a loaded Orange-Pineapple Swirl Whip and a special Chile-Mango Whip, there is actually a secret Dole Whip menu item at this location. This special is bacon-loaded Dole Whip.

If you tell the cashier to “spice up” your order, you can get bacon sprinkled all over your treat for only $1 extra.

2 You Can Get Alcoholic Dole Whip

Yes, you heard that right. Disney offers multiple variations of Dole Whip that contain alcohol. At Wine Bar George in Disney Springs, you can buy their special Froscatos, which mix the pineapple soft serve with vodka and moscato.

Tamu Tamu Refreshment in Animal Kingdom serves Dole Whip mixed with your choice of dark rum or coconut rum. You can additionally get the coconut rum Dole Whip drink at the Pineapple Promenade booth during Epcot’s Flower and Garden Festival. If you’re instead in California, the best place to track down rum-infused Dole Whip is at the Coffee House at Disneyland Hotel.

1 There’s A Secret Dole Whip Seasoning

A few years ago, fans began to realize that Tropical Imports in Disneyland had free Tajín Clásico seasoning packets that paired perfectly with Dole Whip. Soon, everyone was sprinkling this mix of chili powder, salt, and lime all over their pineapple soft serve.

Though this trend isn’t quite as popular anymore, it’s still worth a try. The seasonings make Dole Whip even punchier.
