Flight deals from Delta might be tempting. However, there are some restrictions and additional charges the airline fees for passengers with economy seats that might not make these flights worth the lower price.

It depends on the situation, though. In some situations, the cheaper prices are a good deal. So, here is some information to consider before you book one of these discount fairs on Delta Airlines.

If you know how these deals work, you can save some money. Otherwise, you might be stuck paying more to get to your destination.

Delta Economy Seats Are Cramped And You Cannot Upgrade

Economy seats are a lot less comfortable. To make matters worse, you are unable to upgrade your seat to a more comfortable option. When you purchase a Delta deal, you are stuck in economy class.

The airline can give you the cheaper ticket price because they offer so many of these seats. So, you can expect to be sitting close to other passengers.

In economy class, the seats are not just small, there is little legroom, and the seats barely recline. If you are claustrophobic, this is not a good option for you. So, beware before you buy a ticket that makes your trip a nightmare.

On shorter trips, this might not be an issue, but when you are flying across the country, being stuck in a tiny space for several hours is not worth it for some people.

You Have To Pay For Checking Bags

Delta's baggage fees depend on the flight and ticket you purchase. If you are flying on a discount ticket, you do not get to check a bag for free. You can bring one carry on bag and a personal item. However, you have to pay for every checked bag.

The first bag you check that is under 50 lbs is $30 each way. Each additional bag is $40 extra dollars each way. If your luggage is over 50 lbs, you have to pay even more.

When you add the baggage fees, you could pay for a higher class ticket that includes your baggage. So, again, if you are going on a short trip, the discount ticket might be worth the savings. If you are going on a longer trip and need to bring checked bags, you might want to look into other options.

There are a few exceptions to the baggage fees. If you are active military, Delta does allow you to check a bag free of charge. International flights also include a checked bag.

If You Miss Your Flight You Lose Your Money

Regular airline tickets might allow you to make changes if you cannot make your original flight. However, you do not have that option when you purchase a discount ticket through Delta Airlines.

You must fly on your original flight. If you miss your flight, you will need to purchase a new ticket, and that can get expensive, especially at the last minute.

If you think there is a chance you won't make your flight on time, you could be better off purchasing a regular ticket. It beats losing the money you spend on your discount fare.

Last Minute Flights Might Be A Let-Down

Some people choose to try their luck at last-minute tickets through Delta. However, there is no guarantee that you will be able to get on your flight. Flying with kids on a last-minute flight can be a real let down.

Just imagine sitting at the airport only to be told that there are no seats available. Furthermore, you might have to wait for several flights before you can get one of these last-minute ticket deals.

That could mean you will need to wait overnight, which means you will need to spend the night at the airport or get a hotel room.

Last-minute "deals" are usually not as affordable as you might think either. So, if you want to get the best deal, plan ahead rather than waiting.

If you want to change your flight to an earlier flight, you can go standby, but you will need to get to the airport early, and there is a $75 fee you have to pay to make the change.

You Might Not Be Able To Sit With Your Companions

When you purchase a Delta discount ticket, you are not able to board the plane until all of the other passengers are onboard. The airline is not even able to guarantee that families can sit together.

They do their best to keep parents and children close, but that does not mean that it is always possible. If you are flying with a small child for the first time, it can be very upsetting for them not to have a seat next to their parent.

When you are among the last group to board, you are also likely to get a seat no one else wants. So, it is not uncommon to get stuck sitting in the last row where you can't recline your seat, and there is little legroom.

At the back of the plane, you are next to the bathroom and the flight attendant station. With so much traffic in this area, it can be challenging to sleep on the plane.
