It's perfectly okay to be nervous in quite literally any walk of life because there's no 'guide' available to any of us. We just go about our own business and deal with any obstacles that come our way.

As such, we tend to take a pretty laid back approach to people who are nervous about certain aspects of traveling - especially flying, and especially if it's their first time. It's not exactly seen as a natural form of transportation, which is completely understandable.

They're still trying to perfect it even in 2019, and with that in mind, we're going to take a look at 10 things which go through the mind of your standard first-time flyer.

10 Crashing

We don’t even really like saying it, but it needs to be said: one of the biggest fears, obviously, is that the plane is going to crash and that much is kind of obvious. It’s something these first-time flyers will always consider to be a possibility, regardless of whether or not they’re even excited.

We all know crashing is incredibly unlikely and it barely ever really happens around the world, but there’s always going to be that slight element of doubt for your first time, and that’s completely natural.

9 The Door Opening

While this is also pretty extreme, again, you’d have to be a fool to allow this to happen. This is bound to pop into your head like a nightmare scenario when getting onto a plane, because hey, why wouldn’t it?

This falls into the “probably never gonna happen” category, mainly because the staff on board will have it covered ten times out of ten. That kind of security is exactly what you need on any given flight, but especially if there’s a dangerous situation such as this one that’s about to arise.

8 Flight Redirected

The sense of the unknown is probably the worst factor here, because not only do you not know where you’re being redirected to more often than not, but you also have no real idea of when you’re going to be getting underway again. We can’t imagine that’s an overwhelmingly nice feeling at all, really.

If your flight is redirected then it isn’t the end of the world, but in some ways, it’s even worse than being canceled or delayed. At least there’s some kind of finality in those instances, whereas in this one, it just sort of comes out of nowhere.

7 Being So High

No, we don’t mean that kind of high.

When you are thousands upon thousands of miles in the air, it can be tricky to come to terms with the fact that you’re so far away from the ground. The precious, precious ground.

Some would argue that it’s pretty unnatural to actually be that high up, and we tend to agree with that theory. However, the sooner you get over it, the sooner you start to realize that there are instances when you won’t even be able to tell the difference between a plane and a train.

6 Rude Staff

If you aren’t rude to the staff then they usually aren’t rude to you, but that doesn’t always account for the times when they just happen to be in a bad mood for no particular reason.

Maybe they woke up on the wrong side of the bed, or maybe they just aren’t nice people. Either way, it can be pretty tense to be at odds with these folks – especially considering they are the ones that are supposed to bring you all of your food and drink (and all that good stuff).

5 Forgetting Passport

It’s the first thing that you should think to pack before any kind of trip, but when you go on a plane for the first time, it can often be easy to forget about the simple things in life.

Of course, simple may not be the best word we could choose, but either way, you shouldn’t be forgetting your passport when it is the key to you getting to your eventual destination.

Enjoy it while it’s all shiny and new, because trust us, it can get pretty battle-tested over the years.

4 Bad Neighbors

Whether it’s the person behind you, in front of you or to the side of you, everyone fears being stuck with some frustrating people on a flight.

More often than not this happens as a result of you sitting in the middle seat of a flight because there’s a higher risk than there is a reward from such a position.

Maybe they’re chatting to you when you want to be left alone, maybe they smell bad, or perhaps they’re just kicking your chair (which is so unbelievably arrogant and we hate it).

3 Traffic On The Way To Airport

A flight is a pretty important thing to make sure you don’t miss, but sometimes, things are just beyond your control. You may even leave extra early in order to ensure that you arrive on time, but even when that’s the case, you can never account for traffic in any way, shape or form.

It’s one of those things you just have to roll with, and if you find yourself half a mile outside of the airport, we’d strongly advise you just take all of your luggage out of the taxi and run. If it’s your own car, then perhaps that isn’t the best advice.

2 Uncomfy Ride

While you may have to deal with an uncomfortable train seat or car seat every so often, the same shouldn’t apply to when you’re in the sky. When you take a risk and go on a trip in the air, you should be guaranteed a safe and comfortable seat.

That isn’t always the case, and you need to prepare yourself for that. You may be sat there drifting off to sleep, and then the next thing you know, it’s eight hours later and your spine has been aligned due to the chronic neck pain that the upright seat has caused you.

1 Turbulence

When turbulence is bad, it can legitimately feel like someone is trying to put you into a horror movie simulation, and that’s no exaggeration. While we sound a little bit over the top with that we can promise you we aren’t doing that on purpose, and if you get turbulence on your very first flight, it could be enough to throw you off the idea permanently.

It just isn’t really that natural to be rocked from side to side when you’re supposed to be having a nice chill-out, and we feel for you if this has happened to you lately.
