There are countless movies out there that give viewers any range of emotions, from comedies to horror, classics to thriller, and everything in between. One genre that doesn't get nearly enough attention is movies that focus on travel and, well, there's no better time like the present to experience it all from the living room. While virtual travel might be gaining popularity, movies are forever!
Travel is a common thread throughout some pretty powerful storylines, some of which are even based on true events. From backpacking through the European wilderness on a vision quest of sorts to exploring the world simply because wanderlust demands it so, there's undoubtedly a movie plot for it. When a plot is combined with stunning visuals and breathtaking film locations, pure magic happens: Wanderlust is awoken.
The Way
This emotional journey starts with Martin Sheen, who plays the father of a man who passes away while on the Camino de Santiago. The true inspiration begins when he chooses to walk the long journey in his son's honor, meeting new people, and learning how to heal along the way.
The Camino de Santiago spans from France to Spain and is a pilgrimage that's often considered life-changing, and it's easy to see why in this beautifully written film.
The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty
This is a favorite of many and with Ben Stiller as the main, there's no denying it's a winner. Walter Mitty represents all of us in a way - stuck in the same routine life, always wondering what would happen if we just... left. And that's exactly what he does.
Viewers will follow Mitty as he experiences the adventures of a lifetime, from the glacial shores of Greenland to the breathtaking vistas in Iceland. Not only is the cinematography incredible, but the story is pretty award-winning, too.
Elizabethtown
An oldie but a goodie, Elizabethtown is a heartwarming, somewhat comedy, about life, death, and healing. Orlando Bloom and Kirsten Dunst take the main roles in this movie, each being total opposites and exactly what the other needs.
Prompted to take a road trip across the country, Bloom's character learns things about himself - as well as his late father - that are truly life-changing. The all-American views in this movie will make anyone want to pack up the car and go.
The Bucket List
The title of this film says it all and with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman in the main roles, you can't go wrong. The greatest thing about this movie, besides the fact that it's an inspiration to everyone who already has a bucket list, is the fact that it was filmed in so many places.
Egypt, China, Tanzania, France, and India all make an appearance, with each one just as visually exciting as the. next.
Out Of Africa
Based on a true story, Out of Africa has received praise for its storytelling in the form of seven Oscars. Robert Redford and Meryl Streep take center stage in this film and between their dynamic acting and a gorgeous setting, Africa will surely be on everyone's must-visit list.
Not to mention, the story itself is an incredible tale, one that transcends decades even to this day. For those who aren't keen on reading, picking up this movie is an absolute must to experience the story and breathtaking landscape for the first time.
