On October 18th, 2018, five-month-old Harper Yeats will likely become the youngest person ever to have visited all 50 US states.
The United States comprises several regions, with every single one of them having its own cultural identity and a very rich history. And It has been a never-ending debate when it comes to outlining these regions with precision. A study conducted by the author Colin Woodard suggests that the US is divided into 11 sub-nations, and he claims that "recognizing the distinct values of each region is critical to understanding the United States."
Life in the middle of Texas or Nevada is very different to what it's like to live in New York or LA, yet both are in the same country. There is a litany of different cultures to discover and enjoy across America's 50 states. Sadly, due to the lack of time and with life getting in the way, fewer people than you might imagine end up visiting all 50.
There is actually an official club for those who have visited every state, the aptly named 'All Fifty States Club'. Most members have made it their life goal to be a part of it. What's incredible is the club is about to get its youngest member ever, and she is only five months old. Her name is Haper Yeats and by the time you read this, she will likely already be a fully fledged member of the All Fifty States Club.
As reported by Travel+Leisure, Harper's parents, Cindy Lim and Tristan Yeats, didn't intend to break the record at first. The two Australians, who now call Canada home, decided to travel around the US while on maternity leave. When they discovered the All Fifty States Club, that trip turned into what will presumably be a record-breaking one.
Harper's journey began all the way back in June, when she visited Maine. Her trip is scheduled to end this Thursday, October 18th, when she visits Vermont, the last of the fifty states on her list. Harper and her parents have even managed to visit Alaska and Hawaii! Pretty impressive. Although Guinness has not yet confirmed whether it will be a world record or not, it's hard to imagine that anyone younger than Harper has ever visited all 50 US states.
