Here's a startling revelation: Instagram isn't just for selfies anymore. Nope, you can post videos, take another selfie, play around with some silly emojis, take another selfie, follow the hijinx of Kim and Kanye, take another selfie, and respond to your favorite celebrity.
Oh, and you can even use Instagram to book a flight. But so far, it's a service offered only by EasyJet. And so far, it's only applicable to European, Icelandic and Northern African destinations. So, the technology-deprived minions in North America will have to wait a bit, but by then, most of us might be able to bone up on how to use the feature.
According to EasyJet, the "Look&Book" app is really simple to learn. It's also instantaneous for those who find a pic of a cool destination one moment and receive an airline ticket the next.
First, browse on Instagram for some choice locales and if you spot a pic that's the real deal and enticing enough to visit, grab a screenshot of that image. Then, access the Look&Book app, which will enable the airline to go through a geolocation tagging process that will look for a photo match, then offer an option of travel dates and suggest a series of price ranges to take advantage of. Simply book the ideal flight from what's available and you're on your way.
Credit some keen eyes at EasyJet who are aware of the impact of Instagram these days, especially among users wanting to live vicariously through the actions of the celebs they follow, including hitting the exotic spots they party at. The same wizards also created the app by finding a few shortcuts to make the aspirations of those followers a reality.
The app takes the guesswork out of people trying to find the location of a posted pic by hitting Google Images, then searching for applicable airports and airlines to book that dream flight. The Look&Book app does all that heavy lifting for you.
However, once the app is available on this side of the pond, that will amount to another predictable outcome: More selfies!
