Contrary to popular belief, going on a cruise is not always just a walk in the park. Vacationers have to deal with a lot of things on the ship from overflowing loos to people pushing up daisies on board, and well, falling overboard for that matter.

How about sharing the same ship with a person who is just simply nuts for days on end? Scary, huh?

Although cruise companies have been putting their best foot forward through an assortment of onboard freebies, not every cruise itinerary always goes as planned.  As a result, cruise ship staff—being front liners of the cruising world—have noted some guidelines for passengers to follow so as to make life pleasant to all onboard, at least.

Below is the list of 15 things passengers should do, according to cruise ship staff.

15 Find The Appropriate Pool For Your Age

On every cruise, a swimming pool is where quintessential fun begins.

This doesn't mean, though, that anybody can just strip to their swimming gear and just dive at any time in every pool. There are cruise lines that have dedicated kids' and adults' pools, notes Cruise Critic. Use them according to their purpose.

14 Be A Responsible Drone Owner

Drones are cool and many drone enthusiasts would want to bring such devices with them on a cruise.

Of course, it is possible to bring drones on board. But passengers can't fly them while at sea. Why? The drone and the operator can become a hazard to everyone onboard.

13 Leave Your Bike And Other Wheeled Toys At Home

Cruise ships carry thousands of passengers. And most of them transform into explorer mode trying to be all over the place all at the same time, making the ship's alleyways crowded.

This leaves no room for such toys to be efficient without causing accidents. And oh, hoverboards explode, too, notes NPR.

12 Fly Your Kite Only While Docked At Port

Just like hoverboards and drones, kites can also be brought on board. And just like hoverboards and drones, kites can only be used after docking.

So if you're planning on bringing your kite on your next cruise, don't say we didn't warn you. Kindly keep the temptation in check.

11 Just Stick To Your Handheld Gaming Devices

Although most cruise lines have no clear written rule about not bringing a TV-plugged video game console on board, it is logical not to.

First, it is cumbersome and will add more weight to your luggage. Also, bringing it on board will cause you to miss a lot.

10 Only Drink Your Personal Wine Inside Your Room To Avoid Corkage Fees

Many cruise lines allow passengers to bring their favorite drinks on board. While there are also those that do not allow it at all.

But knowing that you can bring your favorite spirit onboard does not necessarily mean you are free to drink it anywhere on the ship. Remember corkage fees.

9 Know The Difference Between A Hug And A Hog

It is normal for cruisers to want to occupy the best seats on deck. What isn't normal, however, is the fact that everyone wants to hog a chair.

Don't leave things on chairs on purpose to entitle you to it. Do you want a hug? Don't be a hog.

8 Discourage Yourself From Getting On A Cruise During Your Third Trimester Of Pregnancy

Many cruise lines don't allow pregnant women in their third trimester on their ships. It is really a bad idea for both the expecting mom and the cruise line.

Although cruise ships have medical staff onboard, any medical emergency arising on the sea will not make any of them happy.

7 Say Goodbye To Your Electrical Hairstyling Tools Just For A Few Days

Are you inseparable from your electrical hair styling tools? Deal with it because many cruise ships, including Disney Cruise Line, will not allow those electrical tools inside any of their ships.

These tools are prone to overheating. And who would want to start a fire in a billion-dollar ship?

6 Exchange Your Favorite Pair Of Jeans For A Dress For The Time Being

Cruise ships are known for their lavish restaurants. And be aware that most great foods are reserved during formal dinners only.

So if you want to enjoy a three-course meal and your favorite fine wine while cruising the high seas, don't forget that your only ticket is your fine dress.

4 Leave The Camo Outfit To Your Country's Armed Forces

Camouflage outfits are too cool that even celebrities dig them.

But if you're going on a cruise, you can forget that seven color look, because it might be banned in some of your ports of call. You don't want to end up on the wrong side of the law, do you?

3 Avoid Spending Too Much Time Off The Ship

One of the things a cruise line hates is a late passenger. Many passengers have learned their lesson the hard way already.

The latest and most controversial of which happened in March 2019 was when a celebrity couple on honeymoon were left by their ship at a port in the Bahamas.

2 Maintain Good Hygiene

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, cruise ships are notorious incubators of person-to-person and food-borne diseases. This becomes possible due to the confinement of thousands of people in a semi-enclosed place.

Worried about coming in contact with cruise ship viruses? Just invest in good hygiene practices.
