The border between the United States and Mexico is a busy one. Not only are there numerous border crossing points (with the military, security, and everyone else staffing them), but people travel both ways practically 24/7.

And from immigration issues to people trying to bring super weird things on them during their travels, some unusual stuff happens at these checkpoints.

You might see people contorted into strange positions (and places) to attempt to cross the border without appropriate documentation. You might see people carrying weird stuff that doesn't quite seem right. In short, we can practically guarantee that the security staff working the border never has a boring shift.

Here are 20 of the most unusual things security has had to deal with (at least, the stuff they've publicized).

20 Smugglers Had Second Thoughts

The picture pretty much says it all, but Yahoo reported that this happened near Yuma, Arizona and that the wall is 14 feet tall. Authorities assume the vehicle was previously filled with contraband, but when it got stuck, the purported smugglers abandoned it.

19 Man Masquerades As Vehicle Seat

In 2001, Business Insider reported, near San Diego, CA, border authorities caught this guy literally inside a vehicle seat. He was sewn into the seat to attempt to cross without being detected.

18 Tiger Cubs Are Not Pets

Cats of all types can be vicious. But literal wild animals are not pets, something the border patrol had to explain to a teenager from the US who tried to bring a tiger cub back from Mexico with him, National Geographic explained.

17 Duffel Bags Aren't Adequate Pet Transport...

First of all, at least the people in the prior entry let the cub roam the interior of their car. In this case, the tiger cub was inside a duffel bag, abandoned near the border in Texas, says Scoopnest. Poor little guy!

16 Anything For Bologna?

Seriously, was bologna worth possible jail time? These people attempted to bring 150 pounds of "black market" bologna across the border from Mexico, New York Post explained, but were unsuccessful. At least the agents at the El Paso crossing had enough for lunch?

15 Wow, That's Going To Smell

In March of 2019, a Canadian artist began constructing a cotija cheese wall along the US-Mexico border in Tecate. At the time 10News reported on the installation, Cosimo Cavallaro had enough cheese for a 25 foot by six-foot cheese wall. Clearly, the agents will soon be smelling sour cheese...

14 Contraband Queso Costs Driver $300

In another dairy-related event, smugglers attempted to bring 230 pounds of "illegal cheese" into the US, KPBS says. Apparently, the limit is 10 pounds, so the driver had to pay a $300 fine for their undeclared cheese, and the product was destroyed... hopefully into quesadillas?

13 Quite A Convincing Paint Job...

As CNN reported, authorities at the border became suspicious of this "EMS" vehicle, and when they attempted to check over the vehicle, the driver fled. Later, they found it was a US citizen who had faked the paint job on the EMS SUV, and they were smuggling Brazilian citizens over the border.

12 Um, Do We Know You?

ABC News reported that one border patrol agent 'became suspicious' of another customs SUV while patrolling, so he pulled it over. Inside were human traffickers and 13 Mexican citizens. This happened near the border in Laredo, Texas.

11 That's Some Serious Artistry...

Fox43 reported that smugglers tried to bring contraband across the border inside fake carrots. Thousands of fake carrots (with illicit stuff inside) were mixed in with real carrots, they noted. That's some real dedication... and a waste of vegetables TBH.

10 Another Imposter Is Out Of Service

Yet another imposter tried to get past the border patrol with a replica Dish van. As the Arizona Daily Star reported, the van had no cable equipment, only tons of "product" that the US citizen driver apparently planned to sell.

9 Climbing Is Now A Fun Pastime

The border between the US and Mexico uses a range of fences and walls. And as talks of building more walls increase, citizens to the south continue to show that they can scale almost any type of fence with ease. That can't be fun for border agents to deal with, especially if someone falls.

8 Well, At Least We Know He's Ok

Lots of migrants attempt to circumvent border patrol security checks by stowing away. This person didn't do a great job, but it's also not very safe. Can you imagine how cramped and scary this would be? And border patrol agents had to extract him.

7 That Sure Is A Spicy Problem

Jalapenos are a staple on both sides of the border. But one shipment had more than just spicy peppers inside, Vice reported. $2.3M worth of contraband was found in the shipment, and TBH it's like the smugglers didn't even try to be sneaky. Look at those packages amongst the peppers!

6 Agents Encounter A Sad Surprise In A Cornfield

In April 2019, border patrol agents found an unattended three-year-old boy in a cornfield outside Texas. Per CNN, the little guy's name and a phone number were written on his shoes. Authorities said they believed the boy was with smugglers, who abandoned him when the border patrol arrived.

5 Agents Double As First Responders

When you picture border patrol security, you might imagine long lines of cars waiting to pass through. But border patrol is also tasked with patrolling the desert surrounding the border. In this case, they're assisting with a crazy rollover accident. Wonder how that happened?

4 Crossing Points Are Underground, Too

Per Fox 10 Phoenix, authorities just recently found a second tunnel in Nogales, which they suspect is used for transporting substances underground. So not only do agents have to handle legit crossings, but they also have to worry about underground tunneling.

3 Tamales Are Delicious But Really?

Honestly, I'm kind of peeved that someone wasted an entire pot of tamales smuggling contraband. But that's what happened, Tucson Sentinel explained, because along with a bunch of tamales, there were also nearly 30 pounds of stuff you can't bring across the border.

2 Lil Wayne Got In A Lil Trouble Near The Border

Lil Wayne is a guy who likes his recreational pastimes, right? But border patrol stopped his tour bus because they smelled something suspicious, and he was briefly detained, NY Daily News noted... Of course, he wasn't crossing the border, which goes to show that agents do plenty more than walk the line.

1 Human Traffickers Branching Out...

The South China Morning Post reported back in 2017 that the border patrol had found a tunnel from Mexico to the US that was being used to smuggle Chinese migrants. Just imagine the paperwork and potential language barriers involved in those scenarios. SCMP noted it was 'higher profit margins' that drove smugglers to transport Chinese immigrants.
