Fast food is a fixture in the United States. But that doesn't mean every franchise and every location satisfies its customers enough to stay in the running. Of course, there are plenty of people looking for a quick and calorie-rich meal, but for one reason or another, some businesses flounder.

Maybe they couldn't pay rent, maybe a disaster struck and rebuilding wasn't a priority. But for whatever reason, these fast food joints have fallen off the map, dropped into disrepair, and are giving us the heebie-jeebies.

After all, fast food joints are supposed to be hopping. Friendly faces, fast service, and a somewhat clean surface from which to nosh on our burgers. Right?

But these 20 abandoned fast-food spots are worrying us with their rundown vibes and creepy interiors. Honestly, we'd rather cook at home instead.

20 A Decrepit '80s BK Has Us Tripping Out

This '80s-era Burger King is trapped in history. Somehow, it was left to rot as time passed by. But the freakiest part is that it's still standing, even though it's a bit dusty. Super weird, like walking into a time warp.

19 Arby's Might Have The Meat, But It Doesn't Have Any Customers

How does this Arby's manage to look both imposing and decrepit at the same time? The "danger" sign is one indication, right? But this looks like particle board about to fall over. But the scary part is that the Denverite says this Arby's will soon be a Chase bank... Erm, ok.

18 Another Arby's Is Kitschy-Creepy

This Arby's looks like it could hark from the '70s, with its weird roof and color scheme. It looks like it's part of a ghost town, and the boarded-up windows probably mean there's nothing left inside.

17 Well, That's Disturbing...

Of course we don't expect a perky "open" sign on this retired BK restaurant, but the Keep Out sign and the creepy mist settling over the image gives us bad vibes. We'll definitely be going now, thanks.

16 This Kingdom Fell Into Disrepair

Here's yet another Burger King whose King apparently let the kingdom fall apart. It literally looks like the ceiling is falling here, but you can tell that the city around the franchise is still happening. Super weird.

15 A Particularly Catastrophic End For Denny's

Most restaurant franchises move on, leaving their empty buildings to either fall down or get handed to another business. But in Carmichael, CA, KCRA reported, firefighters decided to burn down a Denny's and use it for firefighting practice. What a way to go.

14 Another Denny's Gets No Love

This Denny's almost looks like the staff was expecting to go home that night and return the next day. But instead, the outdated restaurant was left to start to fall apart, ceiling panel by ceiling panel.

13 This AZ KCF Had Secrets

When you dine at your favorite restaurant, you probably don't think that illegal business is going on under your feet. But it was at this Arizona KFC, BBC reported, and the products popped out on the opposite side of the border in Mexico.

12 So Many KFCs Are Shady Operations

Maybe we should be relieved that another KF is boarded up? But we need to know why no other business moved in, and why the entire back of this building is blocked off. Did something bad happen here? We're not sure we want to know.

11 Is This KFC A Crime Scene Or Did Someone Drop The Fried Chicken?

This Connecticut KFC looks like it could be a crime scene. Seriously, did someone spill a bucket of greasy fried chicken, or is that something else coating the floor? If the lights were on, maybe it wouldn't be so creepy. But this scene? We're noping out.

10 Alaska's Only McDonald's?

Alaska is always seen as almost a wasteland, and this decrepit old McDonald's doesn't help that image. Not many businesses can make it in Alaska, what with the tough climate and remote location. We can't blame them, honestly.

9 At Least The Golden Arches Are Still Standing

It looks like this tear-down might be intentional... After all, the arches are still upright. But this McDonald's also looks kind of worn down, so maybe things started falling apart from the inside out. Either way, this Chicago eatery is getting some kind of face lift.

8 Time Warp At McDonald's

This image reminds me of abandoned theme parks in all their spooky glory. This outdoor McDonald's dining area has taken a beating over the years, and it's clear that it hasn't been visited by happy meal noshers in years.

7 What A Sad Pancake House

This Pancake House restaurant is so old, it looks like it's rusted over. The creepy hand-painted "stop" sign is also an eerie warning. It's probably dangerous in there, and there's no telling how old it is or why it shut down.

6 Pizza Hut Looks Like A Demolition Site

It almost looks like someone taped this Pizza Hut back together. But whatever's happening, it's evident this place isn't in business any longer. It looks sad and unapproachable, like something creepy might be inside.

5 Shuttered Pizza Hut Is Being Overtaken By Nature

Yeah, you're not walking up to that door to order a pie. This Pizza Hut is being reclaimed by nature, and we're kind of okay with that. It's like we almost expect toxic waste to be seeping out of it or something.

4 Taco Bell Isn't Helping This Rundown City

It's depressing when a business closes in a rougher part of town. Especially when nothing takes its place, it's understandable to resent and even mourn a Taco Bell. It's becoming an eyesore, and that's bad news for this neighborhood.

3 Post-Apocalyptic TB Is Freaking Us Out

This Taco Bell looks like it barely survived the apocalypse. It's connected to a Pancake House, which is weird, and the whole thing looks like it's by itself in the middle of nowhere. Some rest stop on a cursed highway, maybe?

2 Taco Bell Fell Apart From The Inside Out

Between the broken glass and the oddly perky menus propped against the broken tables, we're not sure what to think of this Taco Bell. It's sad and also eerie, as if something awful happened here, and not just the fall of a huge corporation.

1 Is This Guy On Taco Bell's Night Shift?

Really? This person is being intentionally creepy, posing nex to this old rundown Taco Bell. And what's happening in the background, a tornado? The whole vibe is off, and we're not here for it. It's delivery for us.
