20 Absolutely Essential Items Millennials Should Never Forget To Put In Their Carry-On

Most of the time, travelling can be a pretty nerve-racking thing if you aren't overly experienced in it - especially if you're getting on a plane. The feeling of being thrust into the air at an insanely fast speed can seem a little bit daunting, and while we haven't exactly helped that with our blunt description, we're here to tell you that every little thing is going to be alright.

In fact, if you're reading this, then there's a good chance that you fall into the 'millennial' category not only in travelling but in life. As most people know it can either be considered a compliment or an insult to be called a millennial and while it's usually the latter, we want to look on the positive side - because otherwise, who else is going to show this age group some love?

As you'll know by now we're going to list a collection of travel items that are great if you are indeed a millennial, but in truth, a handful of these are just good in general. It really does depend on what kind of traveller you are, but if you want to fit into the stereotype, then boy oh boy do we have the items for you.

Travelling is naturally supposed to be a fun activity, but you really do need to 'get it right' so to speak in order to maximise your own personal experience. That's not always an easy thing to do which is why we want to assist in the process of that, without coming across as being incredibly condescending.

20 Selfie Stick - It Has To Be Done

Via: Manwants.co.uk

Look, stop, stop shouting, please don't throw things, and for the love of god put down the ironing board. Yes, we understand that selfie sticks are very divisive amongst many travellers because they can be pretty annoying, but they can also be a lot of fun.

While we don't think you should take up the same position as the young woman in the above photo, it does allow you to capture special memories in a really interesting way. Also, you're able to fit it into your bag fairly easily, which is always a bonus when you're attempting to cram everything in.

19 Strong Travel Bag - Make The Investment

All in all, it doesn't really matter if you pack these 'essentials' if you don't have a good bag to put them in. For us, personally, a large-ish leather bag always seems to fit the bill. Not only is it really practical in terms of size, but most of them are very Tardis-esque in that there's way more space in there than you may initially think.

It also helps that they're pretty stylish, and if you can utilise all of the compartments, you should be able to have a really enjoyable experience when it comes to taking it on-board. Of course, there are alternatives, and a miniature suitcase with four wheels is also pretty high up on our recommended list.

18 Phone - Stay Connected

Via: Techzillo

This one speaks for itself because if you don't have your phone in the modern age, then you'll probably struggle to connect with your friends and family 99% of the time. Some of us have iPhones and others have Samsungs, and some people still have Nokias.

Whatever the case may be it's really important to have your phone because, in case of an emergency, you have to be able to alert your loved ones - one way or another. Oh, and if you're on a long haul flight, you may even be able to get some wifi which is pretty cool.

17 Luggage Tags - A Nice Feeling

The word 'essential' is used pretty loosely here but in our mind, having a unique and specific tag can make life a lot easier. Not only does it allow you to identify your own bag if it looks similar to others, but on top of that, it's just a nice accessory to have.

They're even starting to introduce digital tags, and while that's surely a sign that we're moving ever closer to the Wall-E movie becoming a reality, at least we get some cool perks out of that. It's fun, it's a little bit different, and if you aren't a big travel fan then it's something nice to let your mind forget about the impending flight.

16 Shirt Transporter - Nice And Efficient

Via: Amazon.cmo

Both men and women can use this handy tool, and we mean it when we say handy. One of the biggest problems for people who wear shirts on a day to day basis is the 'art' of them becoming creased because it can often make you look pretty untidy.

Sometimes that's down to human error but that isn't always the case, and if you're travelling with a shirt, then a shirt transporter could be exactly what you need in order to avoid things getting creased.

This is starting to sound like we're just shilling all of this stuff as if we're on a merch stand at a gig, and as a warning, that theme may continue.

15 Ear Plugs - In Your Own Bubble

It's never nice when your ears pop on a plane, and it's even less pleasant when you've got screaming babies and drunk passengers around you. Sure, that isn't the case on every single flight in the history of ever, but these are things you need to be taking into consideration.

Ear plugs seem like they may be a little bit unnecessary, but if you don't want to listen to music or watch anything on your device, then they can be handy. You don't have to go to sleep but you can look out of the window and smile, knowing that you'll be at peace until the moment you land.

14 Travel Umbrella - All Weather Travel

Via: Pinterest

This kind of depends on where you're going in the world, but for the most part, you should always expect some kind of rain to fall regardless of whether or not you're on a tropical island.

Umbrellas can be pretty awkward things to use for people who aren't that familiar with them, but if you get a travel sized one, the majority of your troubles will likely wash away (literally). It's really useful to have one if there's a sudden downpour because not only will you save money on not having to buy another one, but you'll be as dry as dry can be on your latest adventure.

13 Mini Sun Cream - Stay Safe

From one extreme to another: sun cream (or sun lotion, or oil depending on how well you tan). We should all be taking the necessary steps to prevent cancer or diseases of that nature in every which way, and sun exposure can be a big problem for a lot of people.

So don't try and use the excuse of 'the bottle is too big to take as a liquid' because it just isn't valid. The smaller bottles are just as effective, and once you get over to the other side, you can buy a bigger bottle if you think that you might run out.

It's a little bit boring, but it needs to be done.

12 Offline Apps - On Any And All Devices

Via: Telenews

Phone applications, from Angry Birds to Facebook, can either be really enjoyable or really annoying, and you'll learn the line between the two when you need to make some space for other downloads. Still, apps that can be used offline are really useful for travelling, because not requiring the internet gives you an advantage over a lot of competitors - regardless of the genre.

There are several different things you could check up on throughout the course of your flight, and given the advancements in technology over the last few years, we're confident in saying that no stone will be left unturned.

11 External Charger - Stay Ready

Via: Gadget Flow

This fits together with the last entry quite nicely, and it's also something to consider for when you get off the actual plane. The battery life on most phones is really poor and that's no secret, so why not use an external charger in order to remove any stress associated with your phone dying?

There are some airlines that actually provide you with plug sockets which is always great, but you can never guarantee that one way or the other, such is the unpredictability of air travel.

Oh, and don't pretend like you wouldn't jump at the chance to own one of these, because 95% of us are addicted to our phones.

10 Kindle - Expand Your Mind

Via: Pinterest

Kindles aren't as 'in fashion' as they were four or five years ago, but they're still quite relevant - especially amongst avid readers. They allow you to flick your way through a book in a modern way, and while it seems odd, at least you're getting the same kind of 'input' of knowledge.

In one way it's a shame that you don't have a paperback version, but like we said, this is the modern way of doing things now. It's not for everyone but it's nice to be able to just pick it up whenever you want, and in a throwback to a past entry, it allows you to do something else 'offline'.

9 Sleep Mask - Catch Some Z’s

Ear plugs are one thing, but if you really want to escape, just put your sleep mask on and lay your head back. This is more difficult to do if you're flying with a cheap airline because, well, it's much more uncomfortable, but hey, at least you don't have to look at anyone this way.

It's really relaxing to be able to go to sleep one minute, and then wake up in your final destination. It's not always feasible because aeroplanes are naturally loud, but if you pair it up with the ear plugs, then you'll be as relaxed as relaxed can be from the minute you sit down until the moment you step off.

8 Camera - Document The Journey

Via: VideoBlocks

YouTube vloggers aren't the only ones who can document their lives by using an expensive camera. Who knew?

These days a lot of people are investing in more high tech cameras, if only to capture some great memories when they go on holiday or away for a business trip. Then, in 20 or 30 years time, you're able to look back and remember all of the places you visited and all of the great things you did. Isn't that nice.

You may not be willing to part with the money necessary for an item like this, but in the long run, it's a really smart investment. At the very least you could probably sell it on a few years down the line, and you'd still get a great price for it.

7 iPad - Many Possibilities

Via: YouTube
advertising

In many ways, an iPad is just a bigger version of an iPhone. In others, however, you're able to do things that you otherwise wouldn't be able to do. A lot of people use it as a substitute for their own laptops, which is one of the reasons why we've included this as an entry instead of the traditional laptop.

It combines many of the entries that we've already listed in a lot of ways, and that kind of efficiency is always welcomed. They can be frustrating as is the case with most pieces of technology, but one thing is for sure: they fall into the 'we'd be lost without them' category.

6 Drone - Team Millennial

Via: YouTube

This one may be a little bit 'out there' but try and bear with us. Drones are getting more and more popular by the day with travellers, in particular, using them to capture some fantastic overhead shots throughout the course of their time away from home.

They're also used at home, obviously, but it's probably more entertaining to see what you can do in an unknown location that you want to explore. It can be a little daunting using one for the first time, but once you get the hang of it, this is certainly an essential addition and that's a fact.

5 Wallet - Do Things Properly

Via: Lufthansa Worldshop

We've used the iClip as an example, but in reality, there are a series of different models that can be used for this. Most people have pretty normal wallets and that's not exactly a secret, but these 'compact' versions are much more practical.

You can slot your cards into the different holders, and while it may seem as if you can't put coins in there, you can get away with slotting one or two in without them falling out.

At the end of the day, this isn't going to be something that's for everyone, but travelling smart involves minimising everything that's just unnecessary.

4 Hand Sanitizer - Cleanliness First

Via: VideoBlocks

These pocket-sized bottles will be a life saver for any germaphobes out there, and if you fall into that category, then we're pretty sure you'll already have one of these. Essentially, if you feel like your hands are dirty because of something you've touched (which is understandable on a plane), then you can just use a quick squirt of this to resolve the issue.

It sounds simple and, really, that's because it is. It's not messy either which can be a big bonus for a lot of people, and you could probably just carry it around with you wherever you go.

3 Travel Pillow - Be Comfortable

Via: Gadget Flow
advertising

While the image above may not showcase the 'traditional' travel pillow, that's the best thing about them - there are so many designs to choose from. This is especially important for frequent flyers, too, because the last thing you want is to be experiencing neck problems every time you board a plane.

If you're travelling with a more expensive airline then this may not be required as you can probably adjust your seat back in order to maximise your comfort, but still, it's handy to have depending on the circumstances. As is the case with most other items here, it's also a good size and doesn't take up much room.

2 Netflix Downloads - Check Out The Latest Shows

Via: Inc.

Not everyone loves Netflix, and not everyone loves Amazon Prime, but the fact of the matter is that they're changing the way in which we view television and that can only be a good thing.

Netflix, in particular, is extremely useful for those of us who enjoy jetting off somewhere either for work or leisure, as you can download the majority of shows to watch offline. It doesn't matter if it's only on your phone, because you'll still get a great quality picture that will leave the other passengers feeling exceedingly jealous. If they aren't, then they're lying to themselves.

1 Headphones - Escape From The World

Via: VideoBlocks
advertising

There are going to be some music lovers out there reading this, and you'll already be well aware of how many different top quality headphones are available to purchase.

From the noise cancelling options to ones that are cheap but cheerful, headphones are much better to use than earphones. Why? Because they're way comfier, they're much easier to use from a wireless standpoint, and you'll look like a professional sports player if you wear them around your neck.

Okay, that last one may not apply to everyone, but we can dream. The bottom line is this: headphones are the past, present and future of travel.
