Canada and The United State of America share the longest land border in the world. You would think that being so close to each other that the two countries would be very similar. In some aspects they are, but in others they could not be any more different. The fact that Canada has a Prime Minister and America has a President is among the many things that are different between the two countries. These differences can make Americans curious about their northern neighbours. Who can blame them, who would want to live in a world without Coffee Crisps and Tim Hortons.

Canadians and Americans are often clumped into one category and are often hard to distinguish between the two. However, those living in Canada know that there are a lot of perks to being a Canadian and know that these perks can make Americans jealous. Life may not always be sunshine and rainbows in Canada, but having more holidays and paid maternity leave can make life that much better.

From ketchup chips to free health care here are 20 things about Canada that might inspire some people in the US to move!

19 Ketchup Chips

When it comes to food options America has a lot of them, but the one thing they do not have that Canada has are ketchup chips. Ketchup chips is not really a foreign concept. It is like putting ketchup on fries, since chips are also made out of potatoes just like fries are. However, this is not a concept that is seen often in America. According to Narcity, some Americans will travel to Canada just to purchase one or a few bags of these delicious condiment flavoured chips. If you have never tried ketchup chips then you are missing out and if you have you would understand why America would be jealous of Canada for having ketchup chips.

18 The Original Tim Hortons

If you have never heard of Tim Hortons then you are definitely not Canadian. Tim Hortons is a popular coffee shop that originated in Canada. America does have a very few Tim Hortons locations and they are mostly located on the east side. Many Canadians who have tried Tim's, as the Canadians like to call it, have said that it just does not taste the same like it does in Canada. Having a double double in America does not compare to having one in Canada. You have not lived until you have had a Iced Cappuccino from Tim Hortons in Canada. Not having these delicious drinks at your disposal is definitely a sad thought.

17 Coffee Crisp

Many people believe that when it comes to snacks there really is not much difference between American candy and Canadian candy. However, there is one thing that Americans are missing out. Like the amazing taste of Tim Hortons coffee, Canada also has another coffee flavoured treat. Coffee Crisp is a chocolate bar that includes coffee flavours and vanilla wafers that is covered in milk chocolate. This is another perk of living in Canada and something that Americans are jealous of. When it comes to the great foods that Canada has it is always nice to know someone who is able to send you these delicious sweets.

16 Free Health Care

When it comes to the difference between Canada and America this is one of the top topics that are brought up. Having free health care is arguably one of the most important things and Canada has the luxury of providing this service to their citizens. America however, does not and this is something many Americans are not happy about. Not only do they not have free health care, but health care services can be very expensive and not something everyone is able to afford. There are many different types of health insurance available in America, but they all come at a cost. No one should have to avoid seeing a doctor just because they cannot afford it.

15 Laid Back Lifestyle

As stated by the Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development, Canada comes in higher on the Better Life Index than many other countries. Canadians work less hours per year compared to other countries and they have a better sense of community. Most Canadians have a good work-life balance. This does not mean that Canadians are not hard workers because they are, this just means that Canadians know when it is time to take a well earned vacation. Ironically, Canadians like to take vacations in America. So while Americas are working all the time, Canadians are taking their well deserved time off to explore America.

14 Home Of The Most Talented Celebrities

There is a good chance that one of your favourite celebrities is actually from Canada. From Drake to Justin Bieber, many talented celebrities call Canada home. Not only is Canada home to amazing artists, but many well-known athletes, actors and comedians are from the great white north. For all you The Notebook lovers, Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams are in fact Canadian. Canada may not be well known in the Hollywood industry, but there are many key players who are killing it in the game who are from Canada. With all the talent that comes from Canada, no one could blame Americans for being a little jealous.

13 Reputation Of Being Nice

Being too nice is never a bad thing and in fact is it something that most Canadians are proud of. Having the stereotype that all Canadians are nice is very beneficial, especially when visiting other countries. People believe that Canadians can do no wrong and are sweet innocent people. Canadians are also well known for always apologizing. The word "sorry" is something most Canadians always say even when they are not in the wrong. Apologizing for things that are not their fault is a Canadian specialty. Sorry not sorry America, Canada is not apologizing for the fact that they are uber kind.

12 Focuses On Inclusion

Canada is all about making their citizens feel like that are at home, even if Canada is not their birthplace. Compared to America, which is typically known as a melting pot, Canada is more of a mosaic. They embrace the many cultures that are being brought into Canada. The country focuses on inclusion rather than exclusion. This does not mean that America does not embrace other cultures, it is just something you see embraced more in Canada. This could be the reason why Canadians are seen as so nice, but whatever the reason may be, Americans can learn a lesson or two.

11 Invented Poutine

Among the many amazing food products that have come from Canada, one of the most popular food inventions is the delicious poutine. Poutine is made up of french fries, gravy and cheese curds. There are many variations to poutine as people like to put on different toppings on their poutines. This is probably the first thing people think about when they think about Canadian cuisine. It is a dish that you do not typically see on American restaurant menus and that alone is something Americans should be jealous of. Canada may not have deep fried pickles, but they got poutine.

10 Better At Hockey

Lets face it, Canadians are better at playing hockey than Americans. Think about all the talented hockey players like Wayne Gretzky and Sidney Crosby, they all call Canada home. Even though they may have not played or do not play in Canada they still never forget where they came from. Throughout the years the Canadian National Hockey teams, both women and men have won many gold medals. They have even beaten USA a couple of times, which proves that they are a team to be jealous of. Canada may not have many Canadian teams in the NHL, but they do have a lot of players who play in the league.

9 More Holidays

Having more holidays mean that Canadians have more days off from work and since Canada is rated high on the Better Life Index you know they have holidays for everything. Almost every month there is a holiday. Canada has holidays dedicated to families called Family Day, which is a day where people are encouraged to go out and spend time with their family. Canada also has holidays that most Canadians do not even know about or what they are for, but they do know that they get the day off so no one is complaining. The only people who are complaining are the Americans who are stuck working while Canadians have a day off to spend with their families.

8 Avid Mac 'n Cheese Eaters

According to The Walrus, Canadians consume 55% more mac and cheese than Americans do. Americans find this bizarre because mac and cheese is even more popular than the beloved poutine. There are over 1.7 million boxes of mac and cheese that are bought in Canada every year. Many Americans believe that the Great Depression must have never ended in Canada which is why they continue to eat mac and cheese. Canadians say that they actually eat it to prolong their childhood. Americans may like their mac and cheese, but Canadians love it more.

7 More Manageable Population

Canada has a population of over 36 million people and they all live within the 9.985 million km. America on the other hand has over 325 million people all living within 9.834 million km. That is a lot of people living in a small area. Canada has a lot less people living in almost the same amount of space. This means that Canada's population is more manageable. Even though some of Canada's land is not inhabitable it still has a significantly less population compared to America. If you like your space come to Canada we have a lot of it. However, just like most countries Canada does have cities that are over populated, but at least they have the option to move elsewhere.

6 Toys "R" Us

The beloved store that most kids remember visiting to purchase toys is no longer a thing in America. All of the American Toy "R" Us locations have been closed down, but before saying their final good bye everything was marked down to unbelievable prices. Many people documented their final visits to the store that embodied their childhood on social media. Just like Blockbuster, Toy "R" Us is now a thing of the past, for Americans at least. Do not panic Canadians you can still reminisce  about the good old days because Toys "R" Us is still open in Canada. Sorry America.

5 More Open Minded

In addition to Canada being nice and inclusive, the country is also more open minded than America in some aspects. In 2005, Canada became the fourth country in the world and the first outside of Europe to legalize same gender marriage. This open minded notion had been in Canada a lot longer than America since it took America 10 years to legalize same gender marriage. While this marriage was banned in America many Americans admired the fact that Canada was so open minded when it came to the choices people made in their personal lives. Canada is just keeping up with the time and they did not want to wait for America to catch up.

4 Rainbow Coloured Money

Many Americans have compared Canadian money to monopoly money because of the different coloured bills. Monopoly is a very popular board game so this is definitely a compliment. Canadian money is a lot more appealing than American bills which all basically look the same and are colourless. Not only are Canadian bills rainbow coloured, but they are also known to smell like maple syrup, which is such a Canadian thing. Surely, Canadians would rather have their rainbow coloured and maple syrup smelling bills over the plain American bills. Americans are just jealous of Canada's creativity.

3 Kinder Surprise Eggs

Toy "R" Us is not the only thing that you can no longer find in America. The child favourite chocolate egg Kinder Surprise Egg cannot be found on the shelves in American grocery stores. For decades these chocolate eggs have been banned in America because the small toys that were found in the eggs (the surprise) was deemed unsafe for children. Canada on the other hand still sell Kinder Surprise Eggs and have not had any issues with the toys being unsafe for children. Americans do sell an imitation of these eggs called "Choco Treasures", but they do not compare to the original.

2 Maternity Leave

According to The Globe and Mail, in Canada new mothers can take anywhere between 17 to 52 weeks of leave from their jobs. At the end of that leave employers are required to accept the employee back into their jobs at the same pay rate and benefits. Through certain insurance plans the parents are also able to get some type of payment while on leave. In America mothers are allowed to take 12 weeks of unpaid leave depending on the medical component. Some companies offer compensation to try and attract workers. When it comes to bringing a child into the world there is a big difference between Canada and America.

1 Two Official Languages

Canada is so cool that they have not one, but two official languages. This is something that America does not have, despite having a large population that speaks Spanish. This notion of two official languages relates to the idea that Canada is a very inclusive country. There is a large French speaking population that it would only make sense to make French Canada's second language. Learning French has become mandatory in most schools up to a certain age and can be found almost everywhere. Canada wants their French speakers to feel at home no matter where they go in the country.
