While there are plenty of enjoyable destinations across the globe, Mexico gets points for having a ton of amazing resorts all up and down its coasts. And it has a lot of coastlines to work with!

Of course, not every all-inclusive resort is a peachy place to rest your head, let alone imbibe or dine out. Unfortunately, there are just as many awful resorts as there are breathtaking ones. The scenery might be beautiful no matter what, but your room could be subpar, or your neighbor (or even the resort staff) a bit creepier than you'd like.

Fortunately, we're here to separate the good from the absolutely terrible. From resorts that make headlines for unsavory reasons to the ones we want to have an IG photoshoot at, here are 10 of the worst all-inclusive resorts, plus 10 that are worth every cent (and you'll need a lot, just FYI).

20 Worst: Resort Catalonia Riviera Maya In Puerto Aventuras

Per a TripAdvisor reviewer, Catalonia Riviera Maya earns the title of the worst resort because it's "dirty" and unmaintained. The buffet smells, the rooms are in bad condition, lots of stuff is broken (like the TV remote, alarm clocks, and the fold-out sofa), and upgrades were super expensive (and not worth).

19 Worth It: Excellence Playa Mujeres Near Cancun

Excellence Playa Mujeres has over 17,000 excellent reviews on TripAdvisor, and the photos just don't do it justice. Of course, you'll also pay almost $1k per night to stay there, but the picturesque cabanas and beach views are epic enough to make it worth the investment.

18 Worst: Paradise Village Resort And Spa In Nuevo Vallarta

One reviewer dubbed Paradise Village Resort a "teeeeerrrible" hotel, and we can see why. The rooms are outdated and smelly, per multiple reviewers, and the resort didn't advise guests ahead of time when it was having construction performed. No, thank you.

17 Worth It: Le Blanc Spa Resort Cancun

Per TripAdvisor, Le Blanc Spa Resort offers amazing spa experiences, breathtaking views, and it earned a 'best of' reward in 2019. Plus, Pretty Little Hangers says the food is (five restaurants are on-site) is to die for, the location is perfect, the spa is high class, and the IG backdrops are clearly excellent.

16 Worst: Allegro Cozumel In Cozumel

Travelers who have stayed at Allegro Cozumel left feeling less than happy with the experience. Their complaints? Messy rooms, bugs, low water pressure, leaks in the room, vomit in the bathroom, and a stark lack of cleanliness all around (even after housekeeping visited). Gross.

15 Worth It: Grand Solmar Land End Resort & Spa

In addition to thousands of excellent TripAdvisor reviews, Grand Solmar also has picturesque settings that you can't beat. It's literally at Land's End, with a mountainous backdrop, epic pools, and more.

14 Worst: Iberostar Paraiso Del Mar In Playa Paraiso

Visitors to Iberostar Paraiso Del Mar reported bugs in their rooms (cockroaches and ants, oh my!), among other issues. But they have also reported health and safety issues after indulging in beverages from the resort's bars, notes JS Online, and TripAdvisor subsequently deleted many of those travelers' honest reviews.

13 Worth It: Banyan Tree Mayakoba

Let's just say, Banyan Tree Mayakoba is the "only all-pool villa resort" in Riviera Maya. It's got an Asian twist, too, and the villas aren't the only attraction. Carefree Vacations says the culinary experiences are stellar, and the spa facilities are invigorating.

12 Worst: Grand Riviera Princess All Suites Resort & Spa In Playa Del Carmen

With over 1,200 "poor" and "terrible" reviews on TripAdvisor, Grand Riviera Princess All Suites Resort & Spa doesn't inspire guests' trust. The biggest complaint revolved around the quality and flavor of the food, with some travelers explaining that they spent most of their resort stay on the toilet. Pass!

11 Worth It: Cala De Mar Resort & Spa Ixtapa In Zihuatanejo

You only have to look at a photo of Cala De Mar Resort to see why it's totally worth whatever price you have to pay to stay there. Just look at those individual pools on every balcony. Can you imagine what the ocean views are like from there? *Sigh*

10 Worst: Dreams Riviera Cancun Resort & Spa In Puerto Morelos

Dreams Riviera earns the title "one of the worst" resorts in Mexico by a TripAdvisor reviewer who said this was the most disorganized resort they'd ever been to. Everything was a mess, it was overcrowded, and the bathrooms smelled awful, too.

9 Worth It: Auberge Resorts Collection Esperanza In Cabo San Lucas

Esperanza Auberge Resorts looks like a cross between a castle and an island getaway, and we're here for it. Auberge Resorts has tons of resorts in different countries, and clearly they know what they're doing.

8 Worst: Grand Oasis In Cancun

Grand Oasis Cancun has literally thousands of poor and terrible reviews, which is just sad. If the numbers enough don't put you off, keep in mind that the chief complaints seem to be staff entering rooms at awkward (read: suspicious) times... And some reviewers had seriously horrific complaints. Let's just say, nope, don't go here.

7 Worth It: Hotel Mousai In Puerto Vallarta

This adults-only hotel offers ocean views from staggering heights, and honestly, we'd willingly leave the kids at home for a shot at staying here. From the infinity pools to the quiet atmosphere, it sounds like heaven on Earth.

6 Worst: Solymar Cancun Beach Resort In Cancun

While you might get sol and el mar here, you won't get much else. The resort's overall rating is three stars out of five on TripAdvisor, which is enough to give travelers pause. But like many other properties in Cancun, it misses the mark. Reviewers say the staff is rude, there were roaches in the rooms, and everything is old and dirty.

5 Worth It: The Grand At Moon Palace In Cancun

On one hand, The Grand at Moon Palace appeals to grownups, with its bright deck chairs and crystal-clear pools. But on the other hand, the all-inclusive resort offers up plenty of attractions for the kiddos, from epic waterslides to never-ending pools.

4 Worst: Grand Bahia Principe Tulum

While the reviews may not be the worst for Grand Bahia Principe Tulum, one woman from Ottawa would have to say it's pretty terrible. She suffered visible injuries at the hands of another traveler at the resort, who forced his way into her room and was later charged with a serious crime.

3 Worth It: Grand Velas Riviera Maya

From tropical flowers to water you can practically walk on, what's not to love at Grand Velas Riviera Maya? From stunning IG backdrops to too many pools to count, there's something for everyone who enjoys a little R&R.

2 Worst: BlueBay Grand Esmeralda In Playa Del Carmen

Another story from JS Online focused on a woman who stayed at BlueBay Grand Esmeralda and had an awful experience. The room service delivery person forced his way into her room, the publication reported, and this wasn't the only time the resort had such issues. Shady beverages are another common complaint.

1 Worth It: Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal

Soaking in shimmering blue water while staring out at shimmering blue water? Can we just say "yasssss"?! We'd sell our souls for a chance at staying at Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal if only to have our photo taken like this gorgeous traveler.
