Ambergis Caye is the heart of Belize, known for its high-end attractions and resorts. Be sure to check out the Shark Ray Alley, the Tuffy Canyons, and the Hol Chan Marine Reserve.

16 Suspicious Streets: Stann Creek (Avoid)

Stann Creek ranks 4th dangerous according to the US Crime and Safety Report. This lonely stretch of road has been a site of grisly incidents and with a growing crime rate, and traveling alone is not recommended.

15 Diver's Delight: Punta Gorda (Visit)

Punta Gorda is a laidback fishing town in Southern Belize. It's known as a base of exploration for tourists because of the cays nearby and for the historic Maya ruins.

14 Armed Robbery: Orange Walk Town (Avoid)

Armed robbers still remain at large in Orange Walk Town, not one suspect was caught. Authorities may have a hard time operating in this region because most of the crime was committed in broad daylight (ranked 3rd in most dangerous places in Belize).

13 Tourist Hotspot: Caye Caulker (Visit)

This little stretch of land in the middle of the Caribbean is where tourism thrives. It has everything you could wish for and is indeed, the perfect tropical experience. From a laid-back community during the day to the crazy nightlife, this is Caribbean heaven.

12 Sleepy: Santa Rosa Village (Avoid)

Another frequent spot for armed robbery is the little village of Santa Rosa. Located in the Southern Highway, Santa Rosa doesn't have anything worthy for a stop except for the warm locals along the way.

11 Mayan Treasure: Caracol (Visit)

The Mayan ruins of Caracol have stood the test of time and you can experience them yourself. The view on top is breathtaking and it's one of those peaceful moments where you're one with nature.

10 Thieves' Den: Corozal Town (Avoid)

Another crime-ridden town in Belize is Corozal, where a few of the gang-related attacks have left some of the bystanders injured and where an American couple was robbed while having lunch in one of the parks.

9 Spelunking Surprise: Actun Tunichil Muknal Caves (Visit)

These caves combine the two most amazing things: Spelunking and Swimming (you must be fit and ready to do this). The ancient Mayan relics within the cave are worth the journey. See for yourself.

8 Grisly Site: Cotton Tree Village (Avoid)

Cotton Tree is another site of grisly incidents mostly relating to assaults on tourists, and a dumping ground for human remains. The only place worth visiting here is the Cotton Tree Lodge, basically a little resort with good food. Other than that, avoid this area.

7 Natural Water Park: Bacab Eco Park (Visit)

This lush paradise will bring you closer to nature. Another healing experience for tourists is the Bacab Eco Park with over 200 species of tropical plants. It's a premier family destination in the district.

6 Flood Alert: Haulover Creek (Avoid)

5 Private Paradise: Harvest Caye (Visit)

If you want a more private escape, Harvest Caye is the way. This exclusive cruise island is a lovely way to relax from the hustle and bustle of the main city with endless activities such as snorkeling, shopping and bar hopping. It can get crowded, however.

4 Nothing To See Here: St. Margaret's Village (Avoid)

This little settlement along the Hummingbird Highway will probably be a prime location a few years from now. There's nothing much to see here except for hills and pesky bugs. A few crimes happened here but a guard post was established just recently.

3 Photogenic Park: Bocawina National Park (Visit)

Currently ranked 5 stars on TripAdvisor, Bocawina National Park features a wide playground: Enjoy waterfall rappelling, zip-lining, and hiking trails through Mayan mounds.

2 Crime Capital: Belize City At Night (Avoid)

Belize City at night is basically gang territory, lawless anarchy overrun by the worst criminals which forced the government to declare a state of emergency. Exercise extreme caution (head back to your hotel before dark and always travel in groups) if you plan to explore the nightlife.

1 8th Wonder Of The World: The Blue Hole (Visit)

The Great Blue Hole is the dream destination for most divers and the primary reason why Belize remains the top destination in Central America. If you prefer a more extreme method, try parachuting on top of it.
