Proposing to your partner is a wonderful thing for anyone to experience, and that's hardly something that anyone is going to debate! The whole process can obviously be a little bit stressful, from actually deciding to do it, to picking out the ring, to arguably the most important aspect of it all: planning where you want the actual proposal to take place.

Sometimes the person doing the proposal knows what they're going to do weeks or months in advance, but most of the time, people need a little bit of help: and that's what we're here for. Some of the options we're going to run down will probably seem a little bit stereotypical, but in this instance, there's a reason why these are such beloved options.

There's something so pure about telling the person you love that you want to spend the rest of your life with them, but let's not beat around the bush here, there's a right and wrong way to do it.

That's why we've evened out the 'perfect' options, with the selections that we believe are much more likely to lead to you getting rejected. Obviously, if the person loves you unconditionally then there's always the possibility of them saying yes regardless - but it's not a guarantee.

So whether you're in the early or later stages of planning a proposal, sit back, relax, and have a read through some of our thoughts and opinions on the matter. Oh, and if you've already done it and your partner has a big old ring on their finger, then congratulations.

20 (Perfect) Gondola - Venice, Perhaps?

via:serenagenovese.com

Venice itself may not be somewhere that's guaranteed to provide you with a world-class holiday experience, but one thing that we can assure you is that going on a gondola is something that you'll never forget. In fact, we'd go so far as to say it's the ideal proposal idea - or at least, it's one of them.

It's known for being one of the most romantic activities you can engage in across the globe, so why not pop the question here? It's sweet, it's thoughtful, and it's something you'd remember for a lifetime. Just make sure that you don't fall into the water (or drop the ring in there!).

19 (Perfect) Eiffel Tower - Steer Into The Stereotype

via:Kiss Me in Paris

If you've never been to Paris before, then you can't really even begin to imagine just how sensational it is as a city. There are obvious negatives associated with the city, as is the case with most places, but one thing that can never be ruined is the mystique around the Eiffel Tower.

It truly is one of the most remarkable structures known to man, and the entire surrounding area is magnificent. Whether it be on the patch of grass in front of the tower or on the top floor, we can't think of many better locations to begin your journey towards marriage.

18 (Perfect) Niagara Falls - Secluded Beauty

Via: Wikipedia

North America often gets a lot of stick from other continents, but when it comes to the Niagara Falls, there isn't all too much to complain about. The three waterfalls make for one of the most stunning visuals you could possibly imagine, regardless of whether or not it's a sunny day or a cloudy one.

As you overlook the waterfall and look out into your future, it'll just feel right to get down on one knee and propose - even if you haven't been preparing for it. Obviously, it's a popular tourist destination, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it won't be an incredible experience all the same.

17 (Perfect) Grand Canyon - Once In A Lifetime

via:HowHeAsked

Because of the fact that it's located deep in the desert, the Grand Canyon is one of those places that most people will only visit once in their lifetime. It's a bucket list item in more ways than one, so why not pair it up with another bucket list idea: getting engaged.

The Grand Canyon really is something to marvel at, and it needs to be seen in the flesh in order to be truly believed. You'll feel like you're on the edge of the Earth, especially if you're willing to go on the glass bridge, which is something you may need to convince your partner to do if they're afraid of heights.

16 (Perfect) Taj Mahal - Royal Elegance

Via: Wikipedia

Travelling to India is hardly an opportunity that comes around every day, so when it does, you need to seize it with both hands and never look back. The Taj Mahal, in particular, is arguably the most iconic structure to be found across the country and probably the whole of Asia - although the Great Wall of China would have something to say about that.

The building represents so much from a historical standpoint, and just imagine the shock on your partner's face when you turn to look at them, get down on one knee, and ask that all important question in front of such a breathtaking setting.

15 (Perfect) Blue Lagoon - You Just Can’t Beat It

Via: Guide To Iceland

A lot of people outside of Europe may not even know what the Blue Lagoon is, but trust us, it's worth a thought when considering where you want to get engaged. It may be expensive, but aesthetically, it's one of the most beautiful locations you'd ever be likely to visit.

Whether it be walking along a bridge or swimming in the water, from a visual perspective, there are few things that would make you feel more like you're at Disneyland than a Blue Lagoon proposal. Oh, and in terms of Disneyland specifically, that's a little bit too cheesy to be included in this section (and not quite bad enough to be included in rejection).

14 (Perfect) Statue of Liberty - Show Your Patriotism

Via: National Park Service

Heading to the Statue of Liberty may not seem like a particularly big deal for most USA folk, but outside of the States, it's viewed as quite an interesting landmark. Either way, it doesn't matter where you're from, because it'd still make for a pretty cool place to get asked the big question.

As you watch over New York City whilst taking in the stunning structure itself, you could use that moment of clarity to do something you've been wanting to do for god knows how long - get down on one knee and propose to the girl or guy of your dreams. Is anyone else welling up?

13 (Perfect) Tintagel Castle - Simply Stunning

via:Britain Explorer

Where's Tintagel, we hear you ask? Cornwall. Where's Cornwall, we hear the non-Brits ask? It's in the south of England.

Anyway, getting back to the point at hand, Tintagel Castle gives you a glimpse into the past with the place being overcome with historical significance. Anyone would be lucky to get MARRIED here, let alone engaged.

You wouldn't have any trouble finding a time when you could pop the question whilst you're all alone, making for one of the most 'personal' experiences you could ever hope for. It may not be the immediate choice that comes to mind, but the word you're looking for is 'underrated'.

12 (Perfect) The Shard - Top Of The World

Via: Visit London

Out of all the buildings in London, The Shard is probably one of the most notable due to its sheer size alone. Alas, whilst all you may initially see is a pretty big building, you need to head to the very top in order to discover the proposal location that you've been waiting for all along.

Whilst it may be an expensive option, The Shard actually offers special deals with which you can take a step closer to tying the knot. As the title suggests you'll feel like you're on top of the world, in one of the most electric cities to be found across the land.

11 (Perfect) A Fond Location - Make It Personal

Via: The Telegraph

This one is pretty simple and whilst it may sound like a cop-out, it really isn't. Depending on how long you've been with your partner for, there's probably one or two places around the globe which you consider to be very special to you.

It could be where you met, where you had your first date, a holiday destination you both love or something of that nature. Whatever the case may be, this place could serve as a really meaningful and heartfelt location for you to make your partner a bride or groom to be.

Now then, let's make things a little bit more interesting by analysing the negative side of things.

10 (Rejection!) Car Park - No, Just No

Via: Daily Telegraph

You may be looking at your screen thinking "who on earth proposes to someone in a car park?" but trust us, it happens. Whether it's because it catches the person off guard or simply because you're a fan of motor vehicles, this is something that's been known to happen on occasion.

We just can't imagine what would go through your head when you're actually planning to do this. In theory, people probably haven't been thinking about it at all and they decided to do it spontaneously, but come on now, let's at least sprinkle a little bit of romance into this situation.

9 (Rejection!) McDonald's - Big Mac, Anyone?

Via: Today I Found Out

While some people may want to put restaurants as a whole on this section, sometimes, they can actually be quite good places to pop the question - because let's face it, the high-end restaurants can often provide you with better services than this option.

You may be sitting down for a Big Mac or a McFlurry in a crowded McDonalds and then, all of a sudden, a proposal happens. Obviously different places mean different things to some people, but we're going to go ahead and push our 'judge' button all the same - because the man or woman in question would probably want something a touch more meaningful.

8 (Rejection!) Soccer Game - Think Again

via YouTube

There's an argument for every single sporting event to be put on this list, but soccer (also known as football for you Europeans out there) has a different kind of atmosphere to the main sports across America.

What we mean by that is, of course, that the fans can sometimes be more than a little bit intimidating. They chant things from the first minute until the very last, they've all probably had a lot to drink, and they're usually trying to focus on something other than the fans around them.

This one just has 'disaster' written all over it, and that's the harsh truth.

7 (Rejection!) Nando's - Don’t Do It

via:Philip Castleton Photography

Nando's is a delightful restaurant that focuses on providing the world with many culinary delights, primarily chicken and peri-peri related. It's particularly popular in the United Kingdom and, over the last few years, has been branching out to many other countries.

But trust us when we tell you that this isn't the kind of upmarket place that you'd associate with a proposal. It's a very chilled and laid back venue no matter which establishment you visit, and they're probably more used to singing happy birthday to paying customers than applauding a newly engaged couple.

Then again, if you really like chicken, perhaps this is the way to your heart.

6 (Rejection!) On A Plane - Nightmare Scenario

via:HuffPost

It doesn't matter whether you're on a business trip, going to see family or are on your way to a week-long holiday: proposing on a plane is a bad idea. Not only is it incredibly cramped and doesn't allow for any real celebrations, but also, what happens if your partner says no?

It's a possibility that we haven't really explored yet, but just think about it: this is something that could legitimately happen, and imagine how awkward it'd be having to sit next to them for the remainder of the journey. That'd be the real definition of a plane ride from hell.

5 (Rejection!) The Pub - Think About It

via:Ebby L Photography

Everyone likes a good old fashioned trip to the pub every now and again, whether it be with your mates, your family or your partner. It gives you the chance to sit back and relax on a weekend or after a long hard day at work, or sometimes during your lunch hour if you're feeling particularly adventurous.

So when you're considering doing a proposal there, really think about the connotations surrounding the eventual outcome. Sure, it'd be nice to be surrounded by people you know and love, but do you really think that your partner would be okay with the setting? It's a huge, huge risk.

4 (Rejection!) In Bed - Don’t Be Lazy

via:Eduardo Huelin

A bed is a place for sleep, a bed is a place to spend quality time with your partner, and a bed is a place for you to think about your deepest thoughts for hours on end. Your bed is not, therefore, a place for you to ask one of the most important questions you're ever likely to ask.

Some people may be into this more than others but for us, it just comes across as a little bit lazy. It probably does fall into the 'spontaneous' category that we mentioned before, but it's not like this is Ross proposing to Emily on Friends or anything like that.

3 (Rejection!) Family Party - Pick Your Moment

Via: Pennysaver

Family gatherings are usually absolutely horrible or somewhat fun and tolerable at the same time. There's no real in between there for most people, especially as you get older, because there's often a reason why family members either drift apart or remain in each other's lives.

This might be a British thing but it feels a little bit cliche and played out, especially if it happens when you're engaging in some kind of party game. Case in point: imagine proposing at someone else's landmark birthday party and completely stealing their thunder.

Sure, some will say it's a charming thing to do, but the general consensus probably wouldn't match up to that.

2 (Rejection!) Cinema - A Tad Awkward

Via: Den of Geek

Everyone loves going to the cinema, mainly because it gives you a completely unique viewing experience in comparison to when you watch a film at home. The lighting, the big screen and the surround sound make for a fun atmosphere, which would likely be completely destroyed by a proposal.

If you're watching one of your favourite movies of all-time then it wouldn't be too bad, but think about the other people who have paid their hard-earned money for a nice night out. If you turned the film itself into a pre-proposal video featuring your friends and family, then sure, we'd be a little bit more on board with that.

1 (Rejection!) Another Wedding - Stealing The Spotlight

via:Rachel A. Clingen

We briefly mentioned the act of 'stealing the spotlight', and that's the definition of what would happen in this final entry. In short, if you've been invited to another person's wedding there are two things you simply cannot do: get engaged yourself, or wear a white dress.

If we were the bride of this hypothetical wedding we'd be absolutely furious, and for good reason (in our minds). We're all for spreading the love but it'd be an unbelievably awkward thing to do, and it's what people would be talking about for weeks and months to come. Please: don't be that couple. Nobody likes that couple.
