Celebrities will spend ridiculous amounts of money on a home. The bigger the star, the bigger their home seems to be. With their huge salaries, celebs have no problem designing their homes to be extremely over the top, with multiple pools, full basketball courts, spectacular gardens and even private pathways that lead to white sandy beaches.

Jay Z and Beyoncé have topped a few lists when it comes to stars owning multimillion-dollar homes. Of course, with the couple's combined salary, we're still questioning why they haven't just bought their own private island by now. The duo lives exceptionally well, and you won't ever find them living in anything less than $10 million.

When you make it big in Hollywood, one of the first things a celeb purchase is an extravagant home. So it isn't odd to see new stars like singers Camila Cabello and Halsey living like royalty. However, not all A-list stars want to live in 10 bedroom homes with beautiful pools, tennis courts, and 15 car garages. In fact, some of the most well-known stars, who make millions no doubt, are happy to live a remarkably frugal life. You'd be shocked to learn that some of your favorite Hollywood celebs have lived or are currently residing in trailers, apartments and have even rented their places for a price you wouldn't believe.

Check out which celebs go all out when it comes to buying a home and which A-listers would rather live small and comfortably for next to nothing.

14 Jay Z And Beyonce - $88 Million

With Jay-Z's net worth set at an estimated $900 million and Beyoncé with a net worth of $355 million, we're surprised this A-list power couple hasn't bought an island to call home. However, their mega-mansion is still extremely impressive and is so big, it is made up of six different structures. The house is literally a compound, comprised of a 30,000 square foot main house that has eight bedrooms and 11 bathrooms, a gaming/entertainment building, a 15-car garage, a smart house that has a helipad, four pools, and a basketball court. 10 Matthew McConaughey's Airstream

Actor Matthew McConaughey has been in plenty of popular films and you would think he would be living large in a mansion in California, but would you believe that the "Dallas Buyers Club" star enjoys a simple life in his customized airstream? We're not sure if he still uses it, but McConaughey's airstream once sat in Malibu, where he was close to the beach and able to surf whenever he wanted too. The airstream was customized with a practical mind-set so that everything he could possibly need would be there. "If it looks good but it's not functional, then it's not worth anything," the actor said. Inside, McConaughey has a simple living space where he keeps a number of journals and photo albums, and a picnic-style table and small kitchen.

Following her split from actor Russell Brand, Katy Perry moved into a three bedroom flat in the Colonial House in West Hollywood. The building was designed by Leland Bryant and was home to many other famous celebs, including Cary Grant and Bette Davis. For a three-bedroom apartment, the "I Kissed A Girl" songstress reportedly paid $8,500 a month, which is pretty much nothing for the A-lister. The rooms all look practical, with a decent sized bathroom and master bedroom. The Colonial House also features a pool, which we believe Katy Perry probably lounged at quite often after her divorce. If you want to spot a celeb here, you can rent your own one bedroom for $3,800 per month.

8 Lindsay Lohan's Rented Mansion

Her home featured four bedrooms, five bathrooms, a high perimeter wall for security and privacy, a lush garden, a pool, and a spa. The next year, it was rumored that Lohan ditched her Beverly Hills mansion because she couldn't afford the rent or was just "resettling" in New York City. Her home was even listed on Zillow and had an asking price for a whopping $10,450 a month.

7 Anne Hathaway Gets One Bedroom Apartment In Brooklyn

After splitting from Raffaello Follieri, who went to prison in 2008 for four and a half years after pleading guilty to 14 counts of conspiracy and money laundering, actress Anne Hathaway found herself moving out of his $37,000 a month rental at Manhattan's Olympic Tower and moving into a large one bedroom in Dumbo, Brooklyn. Hathaway fled to the famous clock tower penthouse with then-fiancé Adam Shulman and settled on paying $6,400 a month, which is a lot less than she had to splurge to live with her former con-artist beau. The couple rented the apartment, which also features a windowless home office.

6 Tim Tebow Resides In A High-Rise

When Tim Tebow played for the New York Jets, instead of purchasing a mansion somewhere in New Jersey or New York, the former athlete chose a modest rental home in Hoboken, New Jersey. It was reported that Tebow wanted to avoid the temptation of moving into Manhattan, where prices for homes can be in the millions, and settled to pay $10,000 a month in Jersey for his rental home. Back in 2012, the former Jet signed a lease on a two-bedroom apartment in a luxury high-rise building in the city and seemed fairly happy with his new digs.

5 Amy Schumer Shares NYC Studio With Roommate

When Amy Schumer was trying to make it big in the acting world, she moved to New York City when she graduated from college in 2003. "I found a small studio for a monthly rent of $1,275 in Chinatown via Craigslist where I dealt with a [weird] broker - again with my habit of gravitating towards abusive relationships - who tried to give me advice on how to hack it in this city," she once said. She also learned that the rent was way too high for a person trying to make it in acting and had to find a roommate to live with her in her tiny studio apartment. "I placed an ad on Craigslist and found a student from Ohio willing to pay for half the rent to sleep on a loft bed," she said. Thankfully, Schumer made it big and said goodbye to her small space.

4 Chace Crawford Sticks To New York City

"Gossip Girl" star Chace Crawford couldn't resist not living in the city that never sleeps, so he decided to rent a penthouse in the Financial District in New York City. The building, named Dwell95 was styled and designed by French designer Philippe Starck. The rooms look very modern and upscale even if Crawford is just renting out space. With the apartments already furnished, the actor shells out $5,100 per month, which isn't much for an actor these days. And as an actor starring on a show all about glam, fashion, and fun, he knew he had to find a place that encompasses all of that and a little more.

3 Adele Lived Above A Discount Store

Before Adele became one of the most famous singers in the world, she lived with her mother in a small apartment above a discount store in south London. You wouldn't believe that this multimillion-dollar A-lister started out very small before she earned her big break in Hollywood. Today, Adele lives large and doesn't have to share a small apartment with anyone, residing in a very impressive Los Angeles home and is definitely worth a lot more than her tiny apartment back in London. Hopefully, the starlet got her mom her own place, too.

2 Vincent Kartheiser's "Cabin Loft"

"Mad Men" star Vincent Kartheiser isn't much into luxury. The actor opted to live in one room, 609 square foot bachelor pad that has been dubbed a "cabin loft." The small area works great for the actor and it is not too shabby, featuring customized details like a bed that operates on a pulley system, a redwood headboard that "flips down to double as a desk," and outside, Vincent has a dry sauna that has an installation made from 2,500 bits of wood. While many A-list stars would be appalled to live here, Kartheiser seems to enjoy the little things in life.

1 Ellen Pompeo Gives Her Trailer A Makeover

You would guess that Ellen Pompeo lives like a queen, however, the actress is quite all right living in her Hollywood set trailer while she's filming. According to RV Share, the "Grey's Anatomy" star uses her trailer for downtime and it even went through a massive renovation. The cramped trailer with its brown cabinets and dull lighting was transformed into what looks like more of an A-listers expensive and chic living space than a dingy trailer. The cabinets and walls were painted white and design experts helped decorate the trailer adding bold metallic and lots of natural lighting. Anyone would want to make this his or her permanent home after seeing what an extensive makeover the trailer received. We don't blame Pompeo for wanting to live here for a long time if she wanted too.
