Californication by Red Hot Chilly Peppers goes, "space may be the final frontier, but it's still filmed in a Hollywood basement." True as that may be, today one can actually visit the actual Star Trek Original Series movie set replica in Upstate New York instead of LA. Come and see the futuristic U.S.S. Enterprise, just as she was in the Hollywood basement 55 years ago. See here for places in LA for movie buffs to visit.

See cheesy sets of the original show that has spawned countless spin-offs, parodies, movies, and nerds. The Star Trek universe has never been stronger than today. Come and see the cheesy TV sets made of cheap glitter, plastic, and polystyrene before J.J. Abrams' reboot movies transformed the Enterprise into a heavily armed Mac Store complete with innumerable camera flares.

About The Star Trek: Original Series Tour

The Star Trek: Original Series was canceled after two seasons in 1969. Little did they know of the immense fandom that it was to set off after what was considered a rather disappointing run. The original movie sets were largely dismantled and destroyed. And only a few items of the original set remain today - and they are mostly in private collections.

  • Where: Historic Downtown Ticonderoga, New York
  • Address: 112 Montcalm Street, Ticonderoga, NY

The brainchild of the Star Trek movie sets was the Trekkie superfan, James Cawley. It took him 14 years to build the most accurate replica of the original sets and they are now open to the public.

The sets have been completely recreated using the original blueprints, hundreds of hours of research, and thousands of photographs.

The set tour claims:

"But the star of the event is our beautiful Enterprise set. Not only will you walk our meticulously re-created set, you will hear the behind-the-scenes stories and secrets about the filming of the original series. Our presentations cover a wide variety of topics, ranging from an insider’s look at movie-making to the science of science fiction."

Come on a Star Trek: Original Series Set Tour to travel back in time to the 60s to travel forward in time to see the romantic 60s telling of the future. A world of united earth, a united federation of planets, and limitless space exploration.

A futuristic world with the equivalent of the old Nokia flip-phones and a world where super-advanced computers and space ships are controlled with switchboards. See a spaceship of the future with one "Screen" and no computer monitors, no touch screens, and where information is stored on old yellow floppy discs (but much smaller ones, than the ones of the 60s). And a computer voice that always answers "Working..." when replying.

The sets include everything including.
