10 Ocracoke Campground

Taking about an hour to get there by ferry, this campsite provides the best beachside camping experience. With 136 sites, travelers have plenty to choose from. Visitors, however, will not have access to electricity and water on the individual sites, but there are many flush toilets and water spigots spread across the campground. Fires are prohibited at the sites but allowed along the beach, offering campers a perfect alternative. The campground is very peaceful, and travelers are bound to hear the sounds of seagulls and waves just a short distance away from the beach, which they can access via the small pathways. There is a small town nearby, where one can take a short break from camping and maybe get some stuff from its small shops and restaurants.

9 Ocean Waves Campground

Nestled in Hatteras Island, Ocean Waves is among the Outer Banks' top-rated campgrounds and is one of the perfect spots to enjoy the vastness of the Atlantic Ocean. 7 Portsmouth Island Campground

Both RV and tent campers are welcomed on this beautiful campground situated on Portsmouth Island. Families with children will not fit in this place because it lacks the amenities that would meet their needs. Also, there is no store within the campground, but visitors can be sure to find one in the town center. Because Portsmouth Island Campground isn’t a formal one, travelers can camp here at any time of the year. Beachcombing and swimming are some of the activities to enjoy along the beach. 6 Cape Point Campground

Cape Point Campground is the most affordable national park campground in the Outer Banks and is a great alternative for lovers of Frisco (just in case it's overcrowded!). Comprising 202 sites, the campground works on a first-come, first-serve basis. This means that travelers are not allowed to make reservations when planning to camp there. Each of the campsites offers a picnic table and a parking space. Travelers will find bathrooms and water taps spread throughout the campground.
